Uzbekistan Finalizes WTO Market Access Talks with Switzerland
Uzbekistan has completed bilateral market access negotiations with Switzerland as part of its WTO accession efforts, marking its 25th such agreement. The protocol was signed in Geneva by Uzbekistan’s WTO chief negotiator Azizbek Urunov. This milestone reflects progress toward concluding all remaining talks by end‑2025 and achieving WTO membership in 2026. Ongoing domestic reforms continue to align national legislation with international trade standards.
Uzbekistan and Hungary Sign 2025–2026 Security Cooperation Roadmap
Uzbekistan’s Interior Minister Aziz Toshpulatov led a delegation to Hungary from July 16 to 19 to strengthen bilateral security ties. In meetings with Hungarian Interior Minister Sándor Pintér, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in cybersecurity, crime prevention, counterterrorism, and personnel training. A roadmap for 2025–2026 was signed, detailing joint projects in digital security and migration management. Hungary expressed appreciation for Uzbekistan’s security standards and pledged deeper engagement.
DZ Bank to Support Uzbekistan PPP Projects in Healthcare
DZ Bank has signed a memorandum with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health to provide concessional loans for public–private partnership healthcare projects. The agreement includes support for training medical specialists through Siemens Healthineers and establishing a local Siemens service centre. The bank delegation also met with German financial institutions and firms to explore additional healthcare investments. Project financing and capacity building are expected to begin later in 2025.
1.2 CENTRAL ASIA, CAUCASUS & CIS
Tashkent Invites Georgia to Join $4.7B China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway
Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister Ilhom Makhkamov met with Georgia’s Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on July 23 to strengthen bilateral connectivity and promote Georgia’s participation in the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project. Tashkent emphasized the railway’s potential integration into the Middle Corridor and urged Tbilisi to join future development stages. The 532 km, $4.7 billion railway is under construction and expected to reshape Eurasian transit routes. Both sides also discussed boosting air links and seaport access to enhance tourism and multimodal trade.
Kyrgyzstan Ratifies Tripoint Border Treaty with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed into law the ratification of a treaty defining the tripoint border between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The treaty was originally signed on March 31, 2025, by the three presidents during a summit in Khujand, Tajikistan. The agreement finalizes the convergence point in the Fergana Valley, enhancing regional stability and legal clarity. With domestic procedures now complete in Kyrgyzstan, full trilateral ratification is expected to follow.
Uzbekistan to Import Rogun Hydropower Electricity at 3.4 Cents/kWh
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have signed a 20-year agreement for seasonal electricity imports from the Rogun Hydropower Plant at a rate of 3.4 cents per kilowatt-hour. The deal, approved by the Tajik government, will enable deliveries during Uzbekistan’s peak demand months from April to September, coordinated by OJSC Rogun HPP and JSC Uzenergosotish. The price will be indexed by 1% annually starting in year two. Year-round supply is planned once Rogun reaches full capacity, boosting regional energy cooperation.
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Build $10M Cable Plant in Fergana Region
A $10 million Uzbek–Tajik joint venture is building a copper and aluminum cable plant in Dangara district, Fergana region. The Osiyo Kabellari plant, co-led by Fatima Imomova and Tajik investor Shukhradzhan Ashurmatov, will produce 15,000 tons of copper and 1,700 tons of aluminum wire annually. Launch is planned for December 2025, with 100 new jobs and projected exports of $1 million to the CIS. Local authorities pledged support to accelerate infrastructure connections.
Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan Form Green Energy Corridor to Europe
Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan have launched Green Corridor Union LLC to export surplus renewable electricity from Central Asia to Europe. The joint venture, registered in Baku, will oversee construction of high-voltage infrastructure including subsea cables across the Caspian and Black Seas. Backed by feasibility studies and multilateral support, the corridor aligns with EU energy diversification and climate goals. Uzbekistan alone plans to export up to 15 billion kWh annually by 2030 as part of this initiative.
1.3 RUSSIA & CHINA
Uzbekistan and Russia Approve Over 1,000 Weekly Flights
Uzbekistan and Russia have signed a new air services agreement allowing over 1,000 weekly flights between the two countries. Following negotiations in Moscow on July 21–22, both sides expanded route permissions and flight frequencies, including 100 weekly flights on the Tashkent–Moscow route alone. Uzbek and Russian carriers also gained rights to operate triangle flights and serve up to 80 and 29 international airports respectively. The move marks a major boost from the current 310 weekly flights and supports rising travel demand.
