April 3 - 4, 2025 First EU-Central Asia summit
The President of the European Council, António Costa, along with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, will be travelling to Uzbekistan for the first-ever EU-Central Asia summit on 3-4 April. The summit will be hosted by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, with the participation of the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
April 4 - 5, 2025 Samarkand International Climate Forum
Under the theme "Central Asia Facing Global Climate Challenges: Consolidation for Shared Prosperity," the forum aims to explore solutions for environmental sustainability, green economic development, and climate adaptation. EUROUZ Welcomes EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Sikela
The EU Delegation hosted a networking event with ambassadors, European business leaders, and investors, many of whom are EUROUZ members. EUROUZ was represented by Secretary General Oybek Shaykhov, Tashkent Branch Head Shakhzodbek Makhmudov, and representatives from EDF, Veolia, Voltalia, Orano, and AHK Zentralasien. The event highlighted growing EU–Central Asia engagement ahead of the EIB delegation’s visit.
EUROUZ hosted a Networking Iftar
On March 19, EUROUZ hosted a Networking Iftar attended by 50 members and partners for an evening focused on networking and community. The event helped strengthen existing ties and explore new collaborations across sectors. Attendees engaged in discussions on potential partnerships and future initiatives. The Secretariat thanked participants and reaffirmed EUROUZ’s mission to foster trust-based business relationships.
EUROUZ held ESG Committee Members Meeting
EUROUZ held its ESG Committee Members Meeting in hybrid format, bringing together over 40 participants from member companies, expert groups, and stakeholders. The session covered ESG regulatory updates in Europe and the U.S., local standards in Uzbekistan, and regional trends. Speakers included Natalya Ponomareva (SEG Enera), Olzhas Omarov (KPMG), and Francine Carron (ESG Consultancy). The committee reviewed 2025 priorities, focusing on transparency, stakeholder engagement, and alignment with global standards such as GRI, ISSB, and CSRD.

The Fintech Association of Uzbekistan and Wildberries have signed a memorandum of understanding under the WEFINTECH initiative to promote women’s entrepreneurship. The agreement aims to expand educational and business development opportunities for women in Uzbekistan and the region. The program includes practical training in e-commerce, support for entering marketplaces like Wildberries, and access to broader consumer markets, with a goal to reach 3,000 new participants in 2025.EUROUZ member FinAsia Capital held “Uzbekistan Investor Day” in UK
On March 26–27, 2025, Uzbekistan held its Investors' Day in London, organized by Raiffeisen Bank International and FinAsia Capital. Delegations from key government institutions and state banks met with global investors, asset managers, and rating agencies to present the country's economic reforms, banking sector transformation, and 2025 strategy. Discussions focused on financial stability, inflation control, and external reserves. Agreements were reached to strengthen future cooperation and maintain ongoing investor engagement.

EUROUZ welcomes new member - Summit Motors Central Asia
The foreign enterprise Summit Motors Central Asia, a limited liability company, was registered in Tashkent in 2018 by its sole founder, Sumitomo Corporation (Japan). Another group company, Toyota Central Asia, has been located in Dubai (UAE) since 2015. Summit Motors Central Asia is an official regional distributor of Toyota vehicles and spare parts in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

Uzbekistan and EU Officials Discuss Strengthening Relations
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to discuss enhancing Uzbekistan-EU relations. The meeting covered preparations for the upcoming "Central Asia – European Union" summit, trade and logistics collaborations, and cooperation in digitalization, green energy, and infrastructure modernization.
Uzbekistan Proposes Joint Economic Projects with EU
On March 18, 2025, during a meeting with European Commissioner Jozef Sikela, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed joint projects with the European Union in transportation, energy, digitalization, agriculture, and water management. Discussions included constructing a new railway and highway connecting Uchkuduk to Kyzylorda and developing the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor to boost trade volumes.
Uzbekistan and EU Collaborate to Expand Satellite Internet Access
Uzbekistan and the European Union signed agreements to develop satellite internet in Central Asia under the TEI Digital Connectivity program. The initiative involves deploying satellite technologies and ground terminals to provide internet access in remote regions of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The project also includes establishing a regional satellite gateway in Uzbekistan to ensure digital autonomy.
Uzbekistan to Export Uranium to France via Russia
Uzbekistan's state-owned enterprise Navoiyuran signed a €9 million agreement with Kazakh company TOO Logistic Centre to transport natural uranium to France via Russia. The contract involves transporting 500 containers from St. Petersburg to Malvési, Southern France, with shipments continuing until the end of the first quarter of 2026.
Germany Recruits Uzbek Nurses to Address Healthcare Shortages
Germany has been actively recruiting Uzbek nurses to address its healthcare sector's labor shortages. Collaborative projects between Uzbekistan's Migration Agency, the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment, and the Swiss company Globogate Concept AG have facilitated the employment of 400 Uzbek nurses in German clinics. An additional 550 medical professionals are undergoing training, with plans to send 350 more nurses by the end of the year.
Team Europe Allocates €60 Million for Rural Digital Connectivity in Central Asia
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Commission have partnered with SES to deliver satellite broadband services to approximately 1,600 villages across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. This initiative aims to provide high-speed internet access to an estimated three million people in underserved rural areas. The project includes a €34.4 million EU grant and a €25.45 million EIB Global loan.
Uzbekistan and France Enhance Green Economy Cooperation
Uzbekistan and France strengthened their collaboration in promoting the green economy and sustainable development. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed as part of the Energy Climate Policy-Based Loan, financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). AFD provided a €1.5 million grant to Expertise France for technical assistance supporting reforms in Uzbekistan’s energy policy.
1.2 CENTRAL ASIA, CAUCASUS & CIS
Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan Sign Border Agreement
Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Emomali Rahmon, and Sadyr Japarov participated in a trilateral meeting where they signed a historic treaty on the junction point of the state borders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The agreement aims to ensure stability and promote regional cooperation. Additionally, the leaders inaugurated the Friendship Stele as a symbol of their strengthened relations.
Mirziyoyev Discusses Regional Cooperation with Central Asian Leaders
Shavkat Mirziyoyev held phone conversations with Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, and Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan. They discussed strengthening regional cooperation, increasing trade, promoting industrial collaboration, and preparing for upcoming summits, including the "Central Asia Plus" summit.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Leaders Hold Informal Meeting in Almaty
Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met informally in Almaty to discuss bilateral relations. They addressed key areas for deepening cooperation, including trade, industrial projects, and cultural exchanges. The leaders expressed satisfaction with the record-high level of multifaceted cooperation achieved between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
EU and Central Asian Ministers Deepen Ties at Ashgabat Meeting
On March 27, 2025, foreign ministers from five Central Asian countries and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas held the 20th EU-Central Asia Ministerial meeting in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The ministers reviewed progress under their Joint Roadmap and coordinated preparations for the upcoming EU-Central Asia Summit in Samarkand. They reaffirmed commitments to deepen cooperation on trade, security, energy, and human mobility, while emphasizing respect for sovereignty, international law, and peaceful conflict resolution.
Kazakhstan Allocates $50M for Industrial Cooperation Center with Uzbekistan
The Senate of Kazakhstan’s Parliament approved a law to construct the "Central Asia" International Industrial Cooperation Center near the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border. The center, spanning 100 hectares, will feature production facilities, warehouses, and transport infrastructure to accelerate cargo transportation and reduce logistics costs. The investment is estimated at around $54 million.
Uzbekistan-Tajikistan Alliance Treaty Enters into Force
The Treaty on Allied Relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan officially entered into force. The foreign ministers exchanged ratification instruments in the presence of Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon. Originally signed on April 18, 2024, in Dushanbe, the treaty signifies a new level of strategic partnership and cooperation between the two nations.

Uzbekistan, China Launch Digital Silk Road to Expand IT Cooperation
Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Huning met Sardor Umurzakov, special advisor to the President of Uzbekistan, in Beijing. They discussed implementing agreements reached by both countries’ leaders and deepening strategic cooperation. The initiative will support joint projects in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and IT education. Uzbekistan aims to train 1 million IT specialists under this framework. Follow-up agreements are expected later this year to formalize project timelines.
