On Jun 6, 2024 - EUROUZ Intellectual Property & Legal Committee (IP&L) Initiation Meeting
EUROUZ initiated the Intellectual Property & Legal Committee (IP&L), which is designed to unify professionals and organisations across Uzbekistan and the European Union, focusing on intellectual property (IP) rights, legal frameworks, and compliance. The committee's primary goal is to provide a forum for discussing and addressing the key legal challenges faced by businesses, especially concerning IP rights, corporate law, and cross-border legal issues. It will also serve as the internal legal advisory point, assisting all other committees within EUROUZ.

On May 24, 2024 - EUROUZ HR & Capacity Building Committee hosted the meeting on the topic “Salary Review and Talent Mapping”
The event brought together members’ HR experts who discussed trends and dynamics of change, as well as key factors influencing salary formation, providing a comprehensive understanding of the current labor market situation in Uzbekistan with a special focus on Talent Mapping methodologies.
May 27- 28, 2024 - AWEX & FIT Lead Third Annual Belgian Delegation to Strengthen EU-Uzbek Business Ties
For three consecutive years, EUROUZ has supported the Belgian Delegation. This year, the annual business delegation, organized by EUROUZ members Wallonia Export & Investment Agency (AWEX) and Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), is meeting with public and private sector leaders, many of whom are also EUROUZ members.
On May 30-31, 2024 - EUROUZ Facilitates High-Level B2G and B2B Meetings During Austrian Trade Mission to Uzbekistan
Under the Austrian Trade Mission to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan by Advantage Austria, EUROUZ facilitated B2G and B2B meetings between Austrian companies and Uzbek business leaders. EUROUZ promoted collaboration across industries and fostered high-level dialogue to strengthen the investment landscape. These efforts aim to enhance trade relations, encourage investment, and promote sustainable economic growth, exploring joint ventures, technology transfers, and market expansion.
May 30-31, 2024 - EUROUZ supported 3rd International Pharmaceutical Forum of Uzbekistan, with many members taking part in the event
This event gathered over 200 participants from government agencies, institutions/associations and pharmaceutical industry leaders across CIS and other countries. Supported by EUROUZ, the annual forum offered an international platform for exchanging experiences among producers, distributors, regulatory authorities & experts.
This project supported by the EBRD and JICA is part of a multi-energy complex in the Khorezm region, with ongoing wind and storage projects. A 50 MW/100 MWh battery storage unit is under a framework agreement, with a long-term sales and construction contract expected in summer 2024. A 100 MW wind farm is also under detailed assessment with potential construction in the medium term.

1. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
1.1 EUROPE
The Director of the Human Development, Migration, Governance, and Peace Directorate of the European Commission visited Tashkent. The agenda included meetings with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. H.E. Erica Gerretsen also took part in a conference on enhancing opportunities for the promotion of economic, social and cultural rights in Uzbekistan held in cooperation between the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), the “Yuksalish” Movement, and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Regional Office for Central Asia (OHCHR ROCA) within the framework of “Enhancing the Quality of Uzbekistan's Application of International Law (EQUAL)” project, funded by the European Union.
FM Minister of Uzbekistan meets with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia
The parties covered Uzbekistan-EU cooperation, as well as regional and global agenda. Underscored that Central Asia is getting more connected, working together towards common prosperity, increasing its attractiveness for foreign partners. Appreciation was expressed to the European partners for the support of collective efforts in building strong global bridges.
Türkiye ratifies several agreements with Uzbekistan
Türkiye has ratified several agreements with Uzbekistan, including the approval of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency's activities in Uzbekistan. Other ratified agreements include a protocol on amendments to the Agreement on Cooperation in the Fight against Crime, a memorandum on training law enforcement officers, and amendments to this memorandum. Türkiye also ratified the Basic Military Cooperation Agreement, the Defense Industry Cooperation Agreement, an agreement on prisoner transfer, and an agreement on protecting the rights of migrant workers and their families.
1.2 CENTRAL ASIA & CAUCASUS
Kazakhstan ratifies treaty on alliance relations with Uzbekistan.
The treaty aims to enhance cooperation in political, trade-economic, transit-transport, energy, cultural-humanitarian spheres, civil defense, and energy, while strengthening mutual relations in the international arena. It also promotes collaboration between parliaments, political parties, and public organizations of both countries. Additionally, the agreement focuses on foreign policy, defense, and security cooperation to combat terrorism, extremism, organized crime, cybercrime, illegal migration, human trafficking, and other security challenges.
Tajikistan is set to join Central Asia's unified energy system by the end of May 2024, according to Uzbekistan's Energy Minister, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov. This move represents a significant advancement in regional energy cooperation. Discussions on Tajikistan's reintegration into the unified energy system began in late 2021. Despite initial plans for completion in 2022, the process has encountered multiple delays.
